Sharpstown International School is a 6-12 international studies magnet school in southwest Houston. As part of our focus on international studies, we provide multiple opportunities for students to study abroad in places like China, Taiwan, Brazil and Malaysia. We also have an extensive Model United Nations program with over 180 students involved and classes for Model UN 1, 2, 3 and 4. Model UN 4 is taught in combination with AP Comparative Government, which is offered in only two high schools across the district. Students involved in our MUN program attend simulations in Austin, San Antonio and Washington D.C. as well as attending Global Classrooms every year. This is our 6th year hosting a conference and we are very excited about the event! Our Secretariat members for the 2019-2020 school year are:
Devin Guevara - Secretary GeneralHi delegates! I am a junior here at Sharpstown International School, and after being involved in MUN for two years, I am proud to say that I am this years Secretary General. Over the course of the past two years, MUN has served as an outlet for me to explore the issues hat afflict not only me but people all over the world. The efforts and collaboration that the United Nations have demonstrated have always inspired me to take action against the issues that are most meaningful to me. I've had the pleasure of competing in a couple conferences, from Central Texas MUN in Austin, to Student International Conference MUN in Georgetown, and Global Classrooms. All have made a profound impact on me. When im not in school meetings or planning events, I'm working with climate organizations to aid in our battle against the Climate Crisis. Have fun and good luck!

Jacob L. - Undersecretary of External AffairsHello, my name is Jacob, a senior at SIS serving his 4th year in MUN. During my four years in SISMUN, I have been said to "Eat, Sleep, and Model UN." I can personally attest to this statement: I eat. A lot. I love food. I sleep. A lot. And then I'll do Model UN stuff. Constantly thinking about simulations, the world, running the club with fellow officers, etc. MUN aside, this is a bio, and you have to know things about me. I love music, I've played the bass before. I also love talking about politics! So if you want to look for me at SISMUN, keep an eye peeled for a 6'2 gentle giant. I wish you all good luck in conference!

Rund Abu-ashour - Undersecretary of Funds Welcome to SISMUN 2019 delegates! My name is Rund Abu-Ashour, and I am a senior at Sharpstown International. I have been in Model UN since my sophomore year here. Throughout my years in Model UN, I have been lucky enough to attend some conferences and events which have changed me for the better. These debates have been a great learning experience that helped me break out of my shell and become an overall more confident speaker. For these reasons, I have decided to become more involved in this organization, and I am happy to be the under secretary of funds this year. I hope you all enjoy this conference and bring out the best in yourselves. On that note, I am looking forward to seeing you all in action and making this a year to remember.

Mairena - Undersecretary of Conference Greeting Delegates, I hope that you find yourselves excited for SISMUN 2019! My name is Mairena Vera and I am this years Undersecretary of Conference. After 7 years of being at Sharpstown International, my hear aches when I realize that this is my last year, seeing as I am a senior. I became involved in Model UN in 9th grade and ever since then my passion for global issues and foreign policy grew. On the same note, I consider myself lucky for being part of such an amazing organization, one that educates us and makes us aware of every issue that the world is facing. Model UN has challenged me to think beyond what occurs in the United States and actually consider the role that religion, culture and ideologies play on the everyday life of people all over the world. Every conference that I have been part of has shaped me and changed me as an individual, as a person, but most importantly as a global citizen. All in all, I would like to wish each and everyone of you the best of luck. Have fun, enjoy every moment, advocate for your respective countries/individuals, and have an amazing conference. I am anxious and excited to see a of you guys doing what you love. I have no doubt that you guys will make SISMUN 2019 an incredibly memorable experience.

America - Undersecretary of Public RelationsWelcome delegates! I am excited and afraid to be a part of this years secretariat. Model UN has had a huge impact on me as a person. It helped me become more open minded to the world around me. It has also helped me with my public speaking, I may not the the best but I have made improvements all because of this club. I used to think peoples were overreacting when they would say MUN changed their lives, but I understand now. MUN really has changed my life. Not only has it made me more open minded but it has helped me realize that one person can really make a difference. So delegates, I encourage ya'll to try your best, and have fun!
